StarAthlete Terms of Service

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the StarAthlete website at starathlete.co and the StarAthlete platform (the "Service"), operated by StarAthlete B.V. ("StarAthlete", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use StarAthlete. By using the Service you confirm that you are 18 or over and that the information you provide is accurate.

3. The Service

StarAthlete is a professional network and marketplace that connects semi-professional athletes with scouts, clubs, agents, coaches, and camp organizers, starting with basketball, volleyball, and handball. Athletes can create profiles showcasing their experience and statistics. Scouts can search and filter profiles and express interest in athletes. Scouts, clubs, agents, coaches, and camp organizers can post opportunities (open tryouts, player wanted listings, and camp showcases) that athletes can browse and apply to directly through the platform. Where an athlete accepts an expression of interest, the parties can message each other through the platform.

We may add, change, or remove features of the Service at any time.

4. Your account

  • You may hold one account per person, registered as either an athlete or a scout.
  • You are responsible for providing accurate, current information and for keeping it up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that takes place under your account.
  • Notify us promptly at contact@starathlete.co if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorisation.

5. Acceptable use

When using StarAthlete, you agree not to:

  • provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information, or impersonate any person or organisation;
  • harass, abuse, threaten, or otherwise harm other users;
  • attempt to circumvent the platform's privacy or visibility controls, or access information you are not authorised to see;
  • scrape, harvest, or use automated means to extract data from the Service;
  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of any applicable law;
  • interfere with or attempt to compromise the security or integrity of the Service.

We may suspend or remove any account that breaches these rules.

6. Your content and data

You retain ownership of the information and content you provide to StarAthlete. By posting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, display, and share that content as necessary to operate the Service, including displaying your profile to other users and, where your profile is set to Visible, to the public.

You are responsible for ensuring that the content you provide is accurate and that you have the right to share it. You can edit your information, change your profile visibility, or delete your account at any time.

7. Interactions between athletes and scouts

StarAthlete provides a platform to facilitate connections between athletes and scouts, clubs, and agents. We are not a party to any communication, negotiation, or agreement between users.

We do not employ, represent, or act as an agent for any athlete, scout, club, or agent, and we do not guarantee any transfer, signing, contract, trial, employment, or other outcome resulting from use of the Service. Any arrangement you enter into with another user is solely between you and that user, and you are responsible for conducting your own due diligence.

8. Fees

StarAthlete is currently free to use for all users, athletes and scouts alike. We plan to introduce subscription fees for scouts, clubs, and agents at a later stage as the platform grows. If we do, the applicable price and terms will be shown before you subscribe, and we will give reasonable notice of any changes to fees.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if necessary to protect the Service or its users. On termination, your right to use the Service ends, and your profile and personal data are handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties about the availability, reliability, or accuracy of the Service, about the accuracy or conduct of any user or any content they provide, or about any outcome you may seek through the Service.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, StarAthlete will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

StarAthlete is a global platform and we welcome users from around the world. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are designed to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act for users in those regions. As our user base grows in other regions, we will review and update these Terms to reflect any additional local requirements that apply to you.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
